Dunedin (New Zealand): Daniel Vettori was unlucky to miss a century after taking his team to a respectable 404 for eight in their first innings before the second day's play was disrupted by rain and bad light in the first Test against Pakistan.
New Zealand resuming on their overnight score of 276 for six, consolidated their position with a superb 164-run seventh wicket partnership by Vettori and Brendon McCullum before both fell in quick succession. McCullum, who scored a sparkling 78 was bowled by Umar Gul after facing 154 balls and smashing 12 fours. Above 400 will be a huge totle for a team like Pakistan. If NZ put their ball in right areas they can make the test interestin under 500 runs, But the weather conditions will play its role.
